GAMES OF LOVE AND CHANCE
Inspired by Le Jeu de l'amour et du hasard by Pierre de Marivaux
"A place for everything and everything in its place. I learnt that when we buried my father. He wasn't dead, we just didn't like him very much."
It's 1929 and egotistical millionaire Sir Oscar Botcherby is marrying his daughter Sylvia to Roderick Brooke-Sharpe, a man she's never even met before! Before her fiancé arrives, a scheme is concocted and Sylvia swaps places with her long-suffering maid - but unbeknownst to her, Roderick has swapped places with his valet... Misunderstandings and maladroit romances ensue as four young people seek true love and an escape from the manipulative machinations of Sir Oscar Botcherby!
A brand new adaptation of the Marivaux classic.

Games of Love and Chance was commissioned by Zut Alors Theatre and enjoyed a sell out preview run on the 7th-12th July 2014 at the Karamel Club, London. Following audience feedback, the show was re-jigged a little - including a brand new ending - before transferring to the Edinburgh Fringe '14 for a highly successful run, via a co-production with TwoSquared Productions. Of particular note was its live jazz score, composed by Gabriel Chernick and played by Gabriel, Jack Oades and Dan Glover. Whilst this musical score is not supplied with the playtext, the use of original music is strongly encouraged in new productions.
